I began reading this book yesterday and felt encouraged about this diet.  It seemed easy enough and all I have to do is stick to the diet for 17 days and exercise for 17 minutes a day.

However, I became discouraged today when I jumped ahead to the Sample Menu for Cycle 1.  (By the way, never jump ahead in a diet book!)  It seemed very complex and I wasn’t sure that my budget would be able to handle it.  Then, I went back to read the chapter for this cycle in its entirety.  It was full of helpful information; some of which was new to me and others which I had already known.

Then, I stopped at “Meal Planning Made Easy”.  It gave me a little more encouragement.  Basically, for the first 17 days I can eat the items from the approved list, have as much protein food and “cleansing” vegetables that I want (within reason, of course), 2 low-sugar fruits, 1-2 tablespoons of friendly fat such as Olive Oil or Flaxseed Oil, 2 probiotic servings, 3 cups of green tea and 8 (8 oz.) glasses of water each day.  Absolutely no sugar, and if a craving for something sweet is unavoidable he recommends using a small amounts of Truvia.  Fair enough.  We are trying to detoxify my body and get it working in proper order, again.

I still feel discouraged.

I’m afraid that I will ruin it for myself by not eating the meat (with the exception of eggs and fish).  I know that there are plenty of vegetable alternatives for protein and iron; not to mention my daily supplements.  However, the fear is still within me that if I don’t add any other meat to the diet then it won’t work.

As I said before, I also worry about the financial aspect which heightens my feelings of discouragement.  Healthy eating these days can be very expensive.  With very little income coming into our household, we need every penny that we can get.  We have been living off of Ramen Noodles and Peanut Butter Sandwiches with the occasionally splurge on a salad, lately.

Tomorrow, I am going to work diligently to prepare a menu that is affordable, adheres to our vegetarian diet, and is attuned to The 17 Day Diet Cycle 1.  Maybe, I will be able to stretch the dollar and find some healthy choices at the supermarket.  Afterall, it is only 17 days!
