Pain and Suffering Is Only One Bad Decision Away

“On the lessons of life – Trials are but lessons that you failed to learn presented once again, so where you made a faulty choice before you now can make a better one, and thus escape all pain that what you chose before has brought to you.” – Meditations From A Course In Miracles

Trials are lessons I should learn from to avoid any future pain from unlearned lessons.  Pain and suffering is usually endured through bad choices.  The picture shows a young lady with the sun behind her standing on a cliff or rocky shoreline of a lake; very serene and calm.

I was writing about decisions in my novel today.  We all have a choice to make every day.  We choose whether we want to wear the blue shirt or the white one, shorts or pants, and what we should do with our hair today.  As mundane as these tasks are, they are still choices.  If I choose to wear the white shirt with the shorts today and end up with grape stain on my shirt on a hot summer day, I may be rejoicing over wearing the shorts and silently cursing the stain that won’t come out of my favorite blouse.

It is also true with major life decisions, which I find myself constantly battling.  It’s like the teen that had sex and contracted a sexually transmitted disease.  Not learning her lesson to abstain from sex, she then becomes pregnant.  Another example is the husband, who got caught having an affair.  His wife leaves him, and later he commits the same mistake with his second wife.

The pain and suffering builds with each bad decision made.  Only until we learn and start to make good decisions can we live to escape the pain that our bad choices will cause.
