The Island by Elin Hilderbrand

n338616Birdie Cousins, a recent divorcee, has taken on all responsibilities for her daughter’s, Chess, wedding.  But, Chess has plans of her own.  She cancels the wedding, quits her job, and moves in with Birdie.  To console her daughter, Birdie invites her sister, India, and other daughter, Tate, for a month-long retreat to their summer home on Tuckernuck Island.  Birdie’s plans to liven the spirits of everyone involved and potentially spark a bit of summer romance does not work out the way she had hoped.

In this summer novel, Elin Hilderbrand takes the reader to a simplistic way of living.  To a place far away from the hustle and bustle of city living; on an island off the coast of Nantucket with no electricity or running water.  She allows the reader to explore confessions of these four unique women in search of their own love affair.  The Island is a comforting read on a warm summer’s day.  It is recommended for those who enjoy reading outdoors with a slight breeze under the shade of a tree, or catching some rays on the beach.
